Research Safety and Regulatory Programs

Research Safety and Regulatory Programs (RS&RP) oversees a variety of functions that ensures safe, legal, and ethical research across Tufts.

The following boards and committees are overseen by Research Safety and Regulatory Programs (RSRP) and provide regulatory oversight and approvals for research at Tufts.

Health Sciences IRB

The Health Sciences Institutional Review Board (HS IRB) reviews, monitors and approve biomedical and social, behavioral, and educational research for Tufts Medicine and Tufts University Health Sciences.
SBER

Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research IRB

Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research IRB

The Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research IRB (SBER IRB) reviews research involving human research subjects to ensure regulatory compliance.

The Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) ensures institutional compliance with federal regulations that govern animal care and use for all research, teaching, and training projects.

Institutional Biosafety Committee

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is charged with ensuring that all research, teaching, and training involving potentially biohazardous agents at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center is conducted in compliance with relevant regulations and with proper concern for the safety, the environment, and the surrounding communities.

The Institutional Chemical Safety Committee (ICSC) provides review and oversight of research, teaching, and training spaces and activities that are associated with chemicals at Tufts University while promoting a culture of chemical safety.

The Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) is charged with providing independent expert advice for working with or in areas containing radioactive materials or radiation producing machines.

Integrative Safety Committee

Integrative Safety Committee

The Integrative Safety Committee (ISC) was formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and is charged with reviewing research ramp down exception requests, school research ramp up plans, exception requests to social distancing requirements in laboratories (close proximity work), COVID-19 research projects, human subjects research ramp up requests and requests for international hiring and provides recommendations to the Vice Provost for Research.
