Who should take this training?

This training is designed for non-technical staff who work in Tufts Comparative Medicine Services (CMS) and who work with animals that have received human tissues, bloodborne pathogens, other potentially infectious materials. The content is aimed at husbandry staff who perform cage changes or handle cages and/or waste from animals that might harbor bloodborne pathogens. This training is NOT for technical staff that directly handle infectious agents, human materials, or other potentially infectious materials or for staff that perform procedures (other than cage cages) on animals that have received such materials.

Training Description

This training is composed of three required elements

  • An interactive video-based training that provides an introduction to Bloodborne Pathogens and the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard. There are questions embedded in this module to check your understanding of the material.
  • A training module that supplements the above video by providing specific information related to working at Tufts, typical examples of you may encounter an exposure to BBP, how to avoid exposures, and what to do if you have an exposure to BBP while working. This module also has embedded checkpoint questions throughout the presentation. You must complete the entire module to ensure that all questions have been answered.
  • A link to the online Hepatitis B Vaccine Acknowledgement Form. Clicking the link will bring you to an online survey form. You may choose to accept or decline the Hepatitis B vaccine. Each employee who has risk of exposure to BBP must fill out this form to submit their choice.

This is an online training that can be accessed via the Tufts Learning Center. It must be renewed annually (within 365 days). To access the training please use this enrollment link.
