- Recurrence or Relapse of COVID-19 in Older Patients: A Description of Three Cases.
- In this publication, the authors discuss three cases in which geriatric COVID-19 patients had a relapse, after experiencing a brief window post-recovery with no symptoms. They highlight what this could mean for other cases.
- The mechanism and treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with COVID-19.
- The authors cover how, initially, symptoms of COVID-19 were predominantly related to the respiratory tract. New research, however, shows that the disease can also affect the gastrointestinal tract through the gut-lung axis. They discuss how this happens, what types of symptoms could be seen, and recommendations for treatment of patients experiencing GI symptoms.
- Direct evidence of active SARS-CoV-2 replication in the intestine.
- The authors propose that it is possible for SARS-CoV-2 to replicate in the intestine. Their research shows active viral DNA within samples taken from both the intestine and tissue samples from the rectum, providing a possible explanation as to how fecal-oral viral transmission can occur.
- Potential Benefits of Tryptophan Metabolism to the Efficacy of Tocilizumab in COVID-19.
- The article provides insights into how tryptophan metabolism may increase the efficacy of a new drug meant to fight COVID-19. The authors believe it could help reduce the inflammatory response in patients suffering from the disease, by blocking the IL-6 signaling.
