Tufts Approach to the Pandemic and Beyond: An Event Series

Thursday, November 5 & Friday, November 6

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is ranked among the World Health Organization’s top 10 threats to global health, and in the era of COVID-19, we are more concerned than ever about the rise in infections caused by resistant superbugs. Antibiotics are widely prescribed to patients even without signs of bacterial co-infections, which we know will have the downstream effect of diminishing antibiotic supplies and increased rates of AMR. Partnering Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University’s schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Arts & Sciences (as well as members from Engineering, Nutrition, and Drug Development) under a single umbrella, the Levy CIMAR is uniquely poised to lead AMR research, drug discovery, patient care, and education. Our members will cover each of these topics in our workshop.

You can learn more about the Levy CIMAR at www.LevyCIMAR.org or @LevyCIMAR on Twitter.

If you would like to attend the workshop, please reach out to Rima Mycynek (rima.mycynek@tufts.edu) for details.

Thursday, November 5 & Friday, November 6

Hosts:

Michael Jordan
Tufts University Infection Control Director
Director of TMC/TU COVID-19 Biorepository and Comprehensive COVID-19 Database
Attending Physician, Tufts Medical Center
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine

Jonathan Runstadler
Professor and Interim Chair, Department of Infectious Disease & Global Health
Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University

This workshop will create spaces for emerging project ideas that cross Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center disciplines to refine, focus, or redesign their efforts to maximize their impact on this pandemic and the next.

For more information, contact Jean.Johnson@tufts.edu.

Tuesday, October 13 & Thursday, October 15

  • Oct 13: “Implications of Changes in Health Information Seeking Behavior During the COVD-19 Pandemic” - Lisa Gualtieri, Assistant Professor of Public Health and Community, School of Medicine
  • Oct 15: “Novel Diagnostics, Treatments, and Interventions for Clinical Care of COVID-19 and Cardiovascular Disease” - Pilar Alcaide, Kenneth and JoAnn G. Wellner Professor, School of Medicine

These events are “Symposium Plus” events, where research teams present projects they plan to submit for grant funding. Expert discussants will then deliver remarks on the proposals and the audience will participate in helping the investigator teams address weaknesses that could be identified in a full proposal.

The planning team and presenters would be honored if you could attend with the purpose of giving constructive feedback to the project team as part of the audience. This will not require you to prepare anything ahead of time. It would be helpful if you can participate for the full two-hour event, however.

If you are interested, please contact Hannah Santos (hsantos@tuftsmedicalcenter.org), who will forward the invitation to you.

Tuesday, October 13, 4:00 - 5:00 PM

The National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Data Enclave is a newly launched NIH initiative to facilitate the sharing of clinical data related to COVID-19.  N3C provides a secure platform containing harmonized medical record data on COVID-19 patients from Tufts Medical Center (Tufts MC) and many other sites around the country.  Tufts CSTSI faculty involved with the initiative will lead an information session on the resource and how it can enable collaborative analytics across a range of clinical and translational domains.

To register for the event, please visit: https://www.tuftsctsi.org/events/national-covid-cohort-collaborative-n3c-qa-session/

More information on accessing the resource can be found on Tufts CTSI's N3C web page.
