A Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position in Exocrine Gland Physiology Research is available immediately in the Dry Mouth and Dry Eye Research Laboratory at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA. Applicants with Ph.D. and/or M.D. degrees are sought to investigate the impact of chronic inflammation on lacrimal and salivary gland myoepithelial cells functions that lead to symptoms of dry mouth and dry eye. A variety of cellular and molecular techniques are employed to perform these studies.

The preferred applicant must demonstrate experience with in vivo experimentation, the ability to perform immunostaining, PCR, western blotting, and tissue culture and must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. The applicant must be able to independently plan and execute research activities including data collection, evaluation and analyses. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with NIH guidelines.

Two research associates (postdoctoral) positions in the field of remote sensing and spatial analysis are available immediately. The research associates will work closely with Dr. Peilei Fan (The Department of Urban Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University) on funded research focusing on remote sensing, spatial modeling, data/information synthesis, and the manipulation and processing of terrestrial satellite data. We are seeking highly qualified candidates with proficiencies in spatial analysis, both SAR and optical remote sensing technology, Google Earth Engine, and Python programming. Cloud computing and deep machine learning are preferred but not required.

Successful candidate is required to have a PhD with a quantitative background and first authored peer-reviewed publication(s) in remote sensing of environment, land cover changes, landscape ecology, or spatial modeling. The preferred applicants must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. The applicant must be able to independently plan and execute research activities including data collection, evaluation, and analyses. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.

Position Title:
Postdoctoral Fellow

Position Description:
A postdoctoral position is available to investigate the neurobiological mechanisms underlying individual differences in responsivity to stress and alcohol. This project is funded by an NIAAA grant to Dr. Marcus Weera at Tufts University in the greater Boston area. This research project uses an integrative approach that combines anatomical, neurocircuit, and pharmacological approaches with biochemical techniques and behavioral testing. The ideal candidate will have experience in rodent models of stress and/or alcohol drinking/exposure, plus one or more of the above techniques. The successful candidate will be mentored toward research independence in their chosen area of specialization. Review of applications will begin immediately. The initial post-doctoral appointment will be for 2 years with a possibility for extension. The post-doctoral fellow will work in a collaborative environment in the Greater Boston area and receive a starting stipend above NIH level.

Qualifications:
Eligible Individuals must hold or be near completion (within six months) of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or related field.

What You Will Do:
The post-doctoral fellow will collaborate closely with the project PI on all aspects of the project, including literature review, developing and refining experiments, IACUC compliance, pilot-testing and equipment set-up, data acquisition, data management and analysis, writing up of results for presentation and publication. The post-doctoral fellow is expected to contribute intellectually to the project and will have a reasonable degree of freedom to develop their own research niche. The fellow may occasionally be expected to train and guide junior members in the lab.

The Department of Psychology at Tufts University conducts cutting-edge interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding the causes and consequences of mental processes and behavior. The department’s primary approach is experimental, with researchers at the forefront of neuroscience; applied cognition; cognitive, clinical and affective neuroscience; social psychology; and developmental psychology.

We (Drs. Aerielle Allen, Lisa Shin, and Sam Sommers) seek a post-doctoral fellow to join our team in its work on an NIH Transformative Award-funded project titled, Effects of Racism on Brain and Physiological Pathways to Health Disparities. In this research we aim to examine the brain, physiological, and psychological responses to the recollection of specific personal experiences with racism among participants who identify as Black or African American. The project will also use prospective smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methods to measure the frequency and severity of experiences with racism as they occur in daily life in real time, permitting the investigation of how these measures associate with brain, physiological, and health outcomes. The initial post-doctoral appointment will be for one year with a possibility for extension.

What You Will Do:
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will collaborate closely with the project PIs on all aspects of the study, including literature review, developing and refining study measures, IRB compliance, pilot-testing and equipment set-up, data acquisition (specifically: participant interview session, EMA oversight, in-person fMRI scans), data management and analysis, writing up of results for presentation and publication as a co-author. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also interface with the team’s full-time project coordinator in overseeing the general progress of the research program.

What We Are Looking For:
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field and demonstrable skills in advancing research from conceptualization to publication. Candidates must have experience and/or interest in working with diverse populations and studying research questions related to equity, racism, and health disparity. Candidates must be organized and attentive to detail, collaborative as well as independent, and able to balance and prioritize multiple tasks. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the acquisition and analysis of fMRI data. Experience with ecological momentary assessment would also be beneficial.

Some research indicates that women, persons of color, and individuals from less socially privileged backgrounds are less likely to apply for positions unless they are confident that they meet every one of the qualifications cited. The Osterweil lab is recruiting a motivated individual to fill a postdoctoral position in molecular
neuroscience. You will be joining the exciting, fast-paced environment at Boston Children’s
Hospital/ Harvard Medical School investigating cell type-specific mRNA translation in neural
function and dysfunction (www.osterlab.org/).

Our group has a number of hypothesis-driven projects that are aimed at identifying critical
mechanisms in neural plasticity, and determining how these processes go awry in
neurodevelopmental disorders such as fragile X syndrome. We are using molecular approaches
including TRAP-seq, scRNA-seq, and spatial transcriptomics, and combining these with
electrophysiological and behavioral assays to answer research questions and test potential
therapeutic approaches that arise from this work. We are also employing new models to
determine the conservation of synaptic mechanisms between mouse and human.

Candidates must have a PhD in neuroscience, cell biology, or a related field, and show evidence
of good productivity in the form of publications. Experience with either molecular neuroscience
and mouse brain surgical techniques, or RNA-seq and bioinformatics, is greatly preferred.

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position (2 years, extendable beyond that) is available in the Molecular Cardiology Research Institute (MCRI), Tufts Medical Center, Chen laboratory. We investigate the impact of autophagy, a cellular degradative and recycling process, on the heart and tumor utilizing state-of-the-art autophagy imaging technology (Nat Biomed Eng. 2022 Sep;6(9):1045-1056). We are passionate about optimizing autophagy modulation as a viable therapeutic strategy that is translatable (PLoS One.2023 Mar 16;18(3):e0282859). Our experimental approaches include: in vitro cell models, molecular biology, high resolution intravital microscopy, flow cytometry, state-of-the-art in vivo molecular imaging of the cardiovascular system and tumor in murine disease models, in vivo cardiovascular function studies, mitochondrial biology and metabolism, multiomics and signaling studies, extracellular vesicles, pharmacology, nanoparticles, nanoprobe synthesis, theranostics. Our long-term goal is to translate the molecular insights gained from the bench to improve cardiovascular and human health.

Candidates will hold a PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in biology, bioengineering, or health sciences fields, have excellent writing and communications skills, and committed to a career in cardiovascular science. The postdoc will have the opportunities to submit to fellowship and other grant funding mechanisms to prepare for an independent career. Prior experience in autophagy, apoptosis, cell biology, molecular imaging, small animal experimentation is desirable but not required.

The Kohlgruber Lab investigates the immune-specific basis of human diseases and applies high-throughput molecular, genetic, and immunological assays to decipher immune system specificities and interactions. We combine human and mouse immunology, with single-cell transcriptomics, synthetic biology, and immune-receptor specificity screening approaches to understand the molecular underpinnings of autoimmunity, cancer, and infectious disease. Our work lies at the intersection of translational immunology and biotechnology, where we seek to pioneer innovative strategies to improve our ability to interrogate and modulate the immune system and leverage our findings toward the development of precision vaccines and immunotherapeutics.

We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to work on an exciting research project dissecting the antigen-specific basis of autoimmunity. The research project will utilize human samples and cell lines to study the antigen specificity and function of synovial T cells in rheumatoid arthritis and checkpoint inhibitorinduced autoimmune adverse events. Multidimensional analyses will be used to conduct the research, including flow cytometry, single-cell profiling, genome-wide T cell antigen discovery screens, high throughput T cell repertoire analysis, autoantibody specificity profiling using PhIPseq, spatial transcriptomics, and in vitro functional assays. The research will require that the individual be a keen learner, have excellent communication skills, be comfortable with new technology, and work as a member of a highly collaborative team. The lab works closely with immunologists, rheumatologists, and oncologists to participate in rewarding translational immunology research.

The lab is part of the Division of Immunology at Boston Children’s Hospital. Summary

The focus of the Sampson Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School is to discover the molecular basis of nephrotic syndrome through human genomics to inform mechanisms, treatments, and cures for this disease (http://sampsonlab.org). We integrate genomics data with other molecular and clinical datasets to discover the biological and clinical impact of the disease-associated genomic variants we discover. We also focus on using large Biobanks to empower genomic discovery for NS. Finally, we are also using new technologies and developing analytic strategies to make definitive genomic diagnoses for patients.

We are now seeking an intellectually curious and independent thinking post-doctoral fellow to drive forward projects in one or more of these broad research areas.

Specific projects available include:

  • GWAS and blood and kidney eQTL/pQTL studies of immunosuppressive sensitive NS
  • Genomic and single cell multiomic analysis of APOL1 mediated kidney disease
  • Transcriptome-driven genetic diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome
  • Nephrotic syndrome discovery using population- and hospital-based Biobanks

We are most interested in applicants with excellent skills in biostatistics, as well as a strong understanding of human genetics, bioinformatics, and/or genome biology. They will use both well-established and newer methods for analysis of diverse types of genomic data, including genome and exome sequencing, and bulk and single cell transcriptomics. They will drive their own projects and also support the efforts of other members of the group.

The Sampson Lab is located at Boston Children’s Hospital and is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. It is well-funded through multiple Federal grants and other resources. It is a vibrant, highly collaborative, and multidisciplinary environment made up of nephrologists, computational geneticists, biostatisticians, and epidemiologists, and bench researchers.

  • Programming experience in UNIX, R, and/or Python
  • Familiarity with high-performance and/or cloud computing

  • Excellence in collaborating and interacting with others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working with bioinformatics analysis pipelines, code version control (e.g., git) tools and/or experience with standard bioinformatic tools (e.g., samtools, PLINK, bedtools)
  • Familiarity with reproducible data science using Jupyter Notebook or RMarkdown or other
