E-Verify

E-Verify Terms in the Award

From time-to-time Federal sponsors add to the terms of the sponsored award a requirement that Tufts University would use E-Verify. Sometimes proof of E-Verification is required for employees during the project.

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information entered by an employer from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.

Tufts performs E-Verification for all new hires as part of the I-9 verification. If a sponsor asks for employees to be E-Verified during the project (for example, during the annual review of employees), the department must submit a request to Tufts Support Services (TSS).

Pre-Award accepts the E-Verify award terms on behalf of the University. Upon request, the Pre-Award signing official will forward to the agency the confirmation of the University enrollment in E-Verify (a screen shot from the system).
