Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL)

The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) is a China’s data protection law. It regulates the collection, use, transfer, storing and other processing in China of personal information of individuals and also the transfer of data collected in China to third countries.

PIPL will very likely apply to your research if the research activities will:

PIPL does not apply to similar conduct in Hong Kong.
