Postdoctoral Position: Vitamins & Carcinogenesis

POST-DOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE IN NUTRITION AND CANCER PREVENTION

An outstanding candidate is sought to work with the Vitamins & Carcinogenesis Team at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University under the direction of Joel Mason, M.D.  We are looking to recruit a post-doctoral scholar to pursue a hybrid research program that integrates nutrition and colon cancer prevention and food sustainability. The successful candidate will work directly with Dr. Mason on an NIH funded project to examine, in laboratory mice, whether a diet whose protein is sourced from sustainable sources (crickets) lessens the risk of colonic tumorigenesis compared to diets sourced from processed meat or other conventional sources of protein.  Additional projects examining how alterations in the gut microbiome alter colorectal carcinogenesis will also be pursued.

The candidate should hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent. Prior experience with laboratory animal husbandry, PCR, western blotting; experience in immunohistochemistry and gut microbiome a plus.  Major emphasis will be placed on leading original analyses, writing manuscripts, career development, and transition toward an independent research career. Importantly, the candidate must be diligent, detail-oriented, be able to multi-task, and possess a high level of scientific curiosity.

This position is anticipated to be for 2 years, with potential extension conditional on funding and performance. The Vitamins & Carcinogenesis Laboratory has a longstanding international reputation for excellence in pre-clinical and translational cancer prevention research, whose principal investigators include both an M.D. and Ph.D.  This position offers a competitive salary, benefits, travel/educational opportunities, an interdisciplinary environment, and opportunity to work with other researchers at the HNRCA, Tuft University and the surrounding preeminent Boston medical sciences community. Tufts University has a very active Post-doctoral Association offering a number of resources to assist in career development. Tufts University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
