New Dean for Research Strategy

October  8, 2021 announcement shared by Dean Dariush "Dary" Mozaffarian

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina Economos as the new Dean for Research Strategy at the Friedman School.  In this role Dr. Economos will lead Friedman School strategies to advance multidisciplinary, high impact research and growth of research funding that leverages the uniqueness of the School and the strengths of the faculty, and that is maximally inclusive of the faculty.  This will include development of systems to promote identification, development, and submission of successful research projects.  Dr. Economos will work closely with Friedman School Deans, Division Chairs, and Office of Research Administration, as well as University’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research and external partners, to achieve these goals.  She will also propose metrics of success and lead regular assessment of systems and programs intended to advance research and extramural funding.

Dr. Economos has always been a leader in Friedman School efforts to advance research, and is a natural choice for this deanship.  She will retain her role as Chair of the Division of Nutrition Interventions, Communication, & Behavior Change.  She represents the Friedman School on the Tufts University Research Council, is Co-Director of the Tufts Institute on Global Obesity Research, and is the co-Founder and Director of ChildObesity180.  Dr. Economos is involved in national nutrition, obesity, and public health activities and has served on four National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committees where she is currently Vice Chair of the Roundtable on Obesity Solutions.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Economos for her continued success in this new role.

Regards,

Dariush (Dary) Mozaffarian, MD DrPH
