Introduction to Radiation Safety - Laboratory / Research

The introductory training is required for all members working on a permit in a Radioactive Materials laboratory.

This training is focused on those whose job assignments require handling or controlling radioactive materials. Participants need to pass an examination (quiz) in order to complete the training. The topics covered include:

  • Regulatory review
  • Radiological handling techniques
  • Radiation Safety philosophy
  • Administrative & engineering controls
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Radiological instrumentation
  • Radiation Safety monitoring and surveillance
  • Waste Minimization strategies and guidelines

HNRCA Employees – The Tufts Medical Center radioactive materials license includes the HNRCA facility. All individuals that work in an HNRCA radioactive materials laboratory are required to attend TMC Radiation Safety Training. Please contact the Health Physics Group at 617-636-6168 to receive details of the upcoming TMC radiation safety trainings. Please note that the TMC trainings are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
