Tufts University supports its research administration employees in the pursuit of the designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-Award Administrator (CPRA), and/or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC). Our Research Administration Mentoring Program (RAMP) includes among its goals both studying to take the CRA exam and preparation for activities that count towards RACC’s recertification contact hour requirements.

Activities to earn contact hours

Recertification contact hour requirements are published by RACC for each certification. The following recertification activities related to research administration are available and supported at Tufts. Please also review additional recertification activities suggested by RACC.

  • Campus-wide workshops on topics related to research administration announced via the OVPR Local Research Administration elist. To be added to the workshop announcements, please email Zoya Davis-Hamilton, Associate Vice Provost for Research Administration & Development. Attendance is taken at the workshops and entered into Tufts Learning Center. You can download your transcript of the course completion from the portal.
  • PARTs (Partnering in Administration of Research at Tufts) program consisting of a minimum of four one-hour workshops per year
  • OVPR-sponsored 3rd party webinars (from Society of Research Administrators International, National Council of University Research Administrators, federal funding agencies, etc.)
  • Online courses available at Tufts Learning Center. Research administration related courses are grouped under “Sponsored Research and Research Administration” curriculum. Each viewed course will count for ¼ credit hours.
  • Prepare and present on research administration related topic at Tufts. RACC allows one contact hour for presentation time, as well as 1.5 contact hours for development. Contact OVPR Senior Training and Development Specialist to find out how to contribute to upcoming workshops.
  • Prepare and present (solely or jointly) a session at a professional organization meeting. For those who are new to presenting, we recommend working with a RAMP mentor to develop a presentation. RACC allows to count one contact hour per hour of presentation time, plus up to three contact hours for development of material.
  • Write a research administration related article for publication and/or prepare and submit an abstract, paper or poster to a professional organization. We recommend starting with a poster or a publication in an online newsletter SRAI Catalyst and working with a RAMP mentor to develop your article if you have not published before. RACC allows five contact hours for a newsletter article, and 10 contact hours for a journal article.
  • Participate in Tufts-wide committee on research administration related topic. Contact Zoya Davis-Hamilton, Associate Vice Provost for Research Administration & Development, if you are interested in a committee membership. RACC allows one contact hour for every hour of service, maximum of three contact hours per year.
