eIRB offers the Tufts research community many benefits, including that it:
  • Supports end-to-end electronic workflow, reducing administrative burden for researchers
  • Increases transparency around review status
  • Improves communication between the IRB Offices, PI and study staff
  • Enhances data and reporting capabilities
  • Creates a shared space for PI and study staff to access study documents
  • Integrates protocol submission with CITI training records so CITI expiration dates are visible to the research team and easier to track
  • Supports audit-readiness
  • Provides a secure cloud-based system with single sign-on and submission from any location

The project is currently in the testing phase, with a go-live date at the end of September for a pilot set of users. eIRB is currently expected to be available institution-wide starting in calendar year 2020. In preparation for roll-out, an informational session will be held on each campus starting in November and a variety of training resources will be offered (please see below).
