NIH Director’s New Innovator Award Program (DP2 Clinical Trial Optional)

The NIH Director’s New Innovator Award Program supports early stage investigators of exceptional creativity who propose highly innovative research projects with the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important problems relevant to the mission of NIH, including topics in the behavioral, social, biomedical, applied, and formal sciences and topics that may involve basic, translational, or clinical research. The emphasis of these awards is on innovation and creativity – preliminary data are not required but may be included. The Principal Investigator must meet the definition of an Early Stage Investigator at the time of application (has not successfully competed for a significant NIH independent research award and within 10 years of completing his/her terminal degree or end of post-graduate clinical training).
