About the Organization

IF @ULB is a European postdoctoral programme, funded by the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the European Commission. The programme will enable ULB to recruit 63 international postdoctoral researchers between 2018 and 2023, in three calls. At each call, IF@ULB will offer 21 positions in one of the ULB research centres. The positions are open to researchers in all fields, according to a bottom up approach.

This comprehensive fellowship programme will provide excellent Experienced Researchers with the opportunity to conduct frontier research and receive broad training in an environment of scientific excellence, under the supervision of renowned academics, and to benefit from an extensive collaboration network with academic institutions and industry.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants of any age and of any nationality are eligible.
  • Eligible applicants are Experienced Researchers, i.e.
    • Holders of a PhD degree, with maximum 7 years postdoctoral experience at the date of the call deadline.
    • Applicants without a PhD, provided they have documented full-time equivalent research experience of minimum 4 and maximum 11 years prior to the call deadline.
  • Eligible applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Belgium for more than 12 months during the 3 years preceding the call deadline.
  • Eligible applicants should not have benefited from another postdoctoral fellowship in Belgium for more than 6 months by the date of the call deadline.  

There are no restrictions on scientific domain. A member of ULB academic staff must explicitly accept to supervise and train the applicant to integrate them in their group.

Salary and benefits

$40.000 annual net revenue. The fellowship contract is fully subject to the Provisions of the Belgian Social Security System covering health insurance, maternity leave, sick pay in case of hospitalization, disability insurance, national pension system, national unemployment system, insurance against workplace accidents, family benefits and provisions towards occupational diseases.

All candidates are entitled to the mobility allowance that is provided as a net amount, $500 per month. The family allowance is provided also as a net amount only to eligible candidates, $150 per month.
