On June 21st, 2024, the Tufts University Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) hosted its Inaugural Member Luncheon, marking a significant milestone in the University’s dedication to fostering innovation and recognizing groundbreaking research and inventions within its community. The event brought together distinguished inventors and stakeholders to celebrate the Chapter’s launch.

Event Highlights:

  1. Welcome of Newly Elected NAI Senior Members and Fellows
    The luncheon kicked off with a welcome from Dr. Bernard Arulanandam, Vice Provost for Research at Tufts University and celebrated the newest elected Tufts NAI Senior Members and Fellows, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to innovation and research. These individuals have demonstrated a commitment to advancing their fields and bringing inventive solutions to real-world challenges.
  2. Keynote Address by Elizabeth Dougherty, J.D.
    Attendees had the honor of hearing from Elizabeth Dougherty, J.D., Regional Outreach Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Northeast Regional Outreach Office. Elizabeth shared insights on the evolving landscape of intellectual property and how the USPTO supports innovation across academic institutions. Her talk inspired members to consider the broader impact of their work and the opportunities for future growth and collaboration.
  3. Open Forum
    The event concluded with an open forum, moderated by Dr. Karen Panetta, President of the Tufts Chapter of the NAI. Participants discussed how the Chapter can further engage the Tufts community in advancing innovation, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and support inventors in their journeys from research to commercialization.
