Required Education, Experience and Skills

Applicants must have a PhD/DrPH/ScD in epidemiology, nutrition, public health, economics, policy, decision science or similar field. An established track record of original, first-author, publications in one or more of these areas is essential. Candidates should have quantitative research skills, experience using Stata, SAS or R for both data management and analysis, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and with collaborators.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will have formal training in a combination of A: epidemiology, nutritional science or public health and B: economics and/or public policy.  Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: policy modeling, policy development/implementation/evaluation, cost-effectiveness/cost-benefit analyses, meta-analysis/systematic reviews, and international nutrition (particularly for low- and middle-income countries).

Duties & Responsibilities

An outstanding candidate is sought to work on an original research project supported by the National Institute of Health evaluating the role of individual fatty acids in human health. He/she will work with the Principal Investigator and the research team to work on assessment of fatty acids late in life in order to understand how fatty acids influence cardiovascular disease, mortality, and healthy aging. This person will also work on utilizing the results of the work to inform innovative targets and interventions for lifestyle, policy, and drug treatment efforts later in life.

In addition to this project, candidates will have the opportunity to participate in additional research given their experience and interests. Examples may include conducting epidemiologic anlayses in prospective cohort studies or modeling the impact of policies on health (both the US and internationally).

The research program and training will be directed by Dariush Mozaffarian, Dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy at Tufts University. The incumbent will work with a multi-disciplinary team, including epidemiologists, decision scientists, and economists, and will also have the opportunity to interface with international experts and stakeholders. Major emphasis will be placed on leading original analyses and manuscripts, career development, and transition toward an independent research career.
